| Canucks Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
| <p>The Canucks continue to receive a mixed back of medical news as the summer winds down and training camp approaches.</p>
<p>The good news came from defenseman Alex Edler, whose season ended two periods before the rest of the team after mammoth (now former) Chicago forward Dustin Byfuglien fell awkwardly on his leg after an epic collision in the corner early in Game 6 of the second round of the playoffs. The hit left Edler with a sprained right ankle, on crutches for three weeks, and in a walking cast for another three. But he was back on the ice taking part in informal skating sessions with teammates in Vancouver in late August and pronounced himself fully recovered.</p> <p>"You always take some time off after the season, so it was a good time for an injury if it had to happen," said... |

| Maple Leafs Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
| <p>No one expected the Molson Canadian World Hockey Summit to pass through Toronto without hearing a lot from Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke.</p>
<p>True to form, he was front and center when the globe's most influential hockey people gathered from Aug. 23 to 26, especially when the focus of the conference zeroed in on whether the NHL would participate in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Burke was already on record as saying the league had to get a lot more out money and publicity out of the experience than the previous two times the games were held out of North America, in 1998 and 2006.</p>
<p>"We had a perfect storm in Vancouver with the right teams and good TV numbers," Burke said, "But we didn't get a thing out of Torino and Nagano. |

| Senators Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
Captain Daniel Alfredsson is getting an early start to the season.
Alfredsson began skating in early August—2 1/2 weeks ahead of his normal routine—to get ready for his 15th NHL season. Alfredsson, 37, feels the need for extra pre-camp preparation because of his age and also because he had surgery to repair a sports hernia in May. He says he is fully recovered from the injury.
"Just (wanted) to try it out and get on the ice a little bit more," he said. "I'm feeling pretty good, actually."
Alfredsson, who will once again be counted on to be the team's top right winger, power play catalyst, penalty killer and leader, will need some help in carrying the offense. |

| Canadiens Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
| <p>Goaltender Carey Price hasn't signed his new contract with the Canadiens, but the team is doing everything in its power to make sure that he knows he is No. 1. </p>
<p>The latest move came when the Canadiens traded Cedrick Desjardins, a second-team all-star in the American Hockey League last season, to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the NHL rights to Karri Ramo.</p>
<p>The Canadiens are telling people that they believe that the 26-year-old has gone as far as he can in his development, but they've also eliminated a possible source of controversy. If the Canadiens ran into injury problems in goal, Desjardins would be the logical choice for a call-up. If Desjardins were to put together a couple of wins and Price struggled, as he has in the last two seasons, there might a popular sentiment for... |

| Oilers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
Goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $5,100 on Aug. 31 for his "extreme DUI" conviction in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Khabibulin was ordered to begin serving the jail sentence Sept. 4, but that probably will be delayed because he is appealing.
He was arrested last January for going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, then flunked a field sobriety test. He was in the Phoenix area because he has a home in Paradise Valley, Ariz., and was recovering from back surgery.
Khabibulin has three years left on his four-year, $15 million contract with the Oilers. • The Oilers get their first look at the future in action soon when their blue-chip draft picks take part in the Vancouver Canucks Young... |

| Flames Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
Daymond Langkow was cleared to start skating in the second half of August, the first step in his return from a neck injury suffered late last season. That's the good news.
But nobody is sure when the veteran Flames center will be ready to play again. Or even if he'll be able to play again. As of the final week of August, he wasn't allowed to lift weights or have any physical contact.
The Flames have a logjam of centers with Langkow, Olli Jokinen, Matt Stajan, Craig Conroy and Mikael Backlund all likely candidates to be with the team when the puck drops on the new season. Plus, there are the likes of Ryan Stone, John Armstrong and Brett Sutter waiting in the wings—although all are fourth-line talent at this point. However, Langkow's injury might clear up the... |
