Evgeni Malkin ranks among the NHL's top 15 in assists (46) and points (69) this season, but the Penguins center can't hide from one abysmal statistic that continues to get worse.
Despite his scoring prowess, Malkin is minus-6 for the season, a plus-minus rating that ranks 660th in the league.
No wonder the Penguins prefer to focus on his pluses.
"Sometimes, the statistics can be deceiving as to how a player is playing," Penguins coach Dan Byslma said. "I think since the (Olympic) break, he's come out with a rejuvenated effort in terms of playing on both sides of the puck and playing away from the puck. He's outstanding with the puck—he's dynamic with the puck—but sometimes he wants to go get it and have it at all times and keep it at all times." ... |
