| <p>Winger Matt Cooke said he is pleased with a rule proposal by NHL general managers to clarify the legality of hits to the head.</p>
<p>Cooke delivered a controversial blow to Boston center Marc Savard on Sunday at Pittsburgh, likely sidelining Savard for the season. However, Cooke was not penalized for the hit and it was legal by NHL rules, so he was not suspended.</p> <p>Many NHL players are upset Cooke was not punished, but Penguins general manager Ray Shero defended the hit as "legal," though he suggested he wasn't pleased with a similar hit earlier in the season by Philadelphia center Mike Richards.</p> <p>Cooke said he was prepared for whatever ruling the NHL made, but insisted he didn't try to hurt Savard with a head shot, and offered that he attempted in vain to reach out to... |
